he Beginning...
[written July 2001 !!]
So, we are now Happy Homeowners (well, Happy Mortgage Owners, at any rate). Woo!
The links below show various views of our house back near Memorial Day '01, prior to any septic tank digging, prior to closing, prior to the sellers moving out. As you can probably see, we have our work cut out for us...but there's a Lake! :)
Details: built in 1960, 3 bedroom/1.5 baths... a split-level ranch, basically. The current tenants have lived there for 17 years, but as you can see in most of the photos, they haven't done much in the way of upkeep. The best things about the house: the view (Long Lake is pretty much right across the street), and the lot size (nearly an acre). Now we just have to decide which projects to tackle first (landscaping? kitchen overhaul? master bedroom renovations & bath installation? workshop creation? ).
More pics to come - we haven't finished uploading some of the others (bedroom & bathroom).
Apologies for the pics - these are as-is, directly from Phil's digital camera... no resizing or cropping done. Resolutions may vary (the pics looked great from my home machine, but much darker and lower quality from work). They're also huge - so downloads may take a while.

Exterior:
View of Front
Another view of Front; (i love this dogwood(?) tree!)
From the driveway, looking out (see Paulette, our broker; Phil; Joe).
Another view - from the front walk to the house.
The house across the street is right on the lake...and just sold for a rather large sum. We're taking this as a good sign... hopefully with the planned landscaping and renovations we'll find that we made a great investment by purchasing this house. :)

Most likely this deck will be replaced. We're also planning to replace the windows on the right with a sliding glass door, and will probably replace the existing door with a nice window.

Back Corner View
As you can see, lots of landscaping can/will be
done here... we already have the name of a local guy with a bobcat :->
(this pic is just to the right of the previous one)
shed
An old garage thingy.. currently storing an old Dodge Charger (alas, not included in the sale of the house).
Interior (now for the ugly part):
Living Room - wall between LR & Kitchen
Living room - fireplace
Living room - fireplace & piano (another thing not included with the house)
Ugly Kitchen -probably one of the first places we fix. The doorway pictured here leads down to the basement levels.
Eat-in area of kitchen. Sorry it's so dark. :-/
Office - this office is to the right of the stairs leading from the kitchen down (and NO, this is not our stuff!! :P ).
The blue paint in the next three pics reminds me of the blue cement you find in some swimming pools. . It will be going away.

Basement 2
Basement 3
Off the living room is a doorway that leads to a 2-room addition that was added in the early 90s, I think. We'll get pics of those rooms this month, hopefully. To the right of the sofa in the living room (right of the right-most kitchen doorway) are 4 or 5 steps that lead up to a narrow hallway.. the full bath (complete with mint green tub) and three bedrooms are off this hall.
